Pitch Script

Introduction

Hi, this is my pitch for my regional magazine and both of my ancillary tasks. The ancillary tasks I am doing are a website, and a billboard.

For my regional magazine I have chosen the genre Baking. This is the main genre of the issue of magazine I will produce. However, it does fit slightly into the other genres of food and drink, and lifestyle which will be shown through my ancillary tasks.

I will show this genre through the images I will include in my magazine as well as the content of my article.

The genre I have chosen for my website home page is a mix of Baking, Food and drink, and Lifestyle. The website features all three as there are different articles on each genre featured on my website home page. 

The genre I have chosen for my Billboard is again a mix between Baking, Food and drink, and lifestyle. All three will be featured on my billboard as the design allows me to include images representing each genre.

The audience I have chosen for my products change with each product.

The primary target audience for my magazine is mainly women between the ages of 16 and 40. They will have an interest in cooking, particularly baking, and home and lifestyle. They will live in the east of England. This is my primary audience as I know that people of this demographic are the most likely to buy the magazine, and be interested in its content and layout.

The secondary target audience for my magazine is men between the ages of 18 and 50. They will also have a slight interest in food, and the home. They will live in the South East of England and the South West of England. This is my secondary audience as I think people of this demographic could be interested in my magazine, but not as much as my primary audience.

The primary and secondary target audience is the same as my magazine, except from the primary age, which is now 16 – 30. I have chosen this target audience as a lot of people read online above the age of 25. Looking at trends online, I can see that people above the age of 25 are more likely to read online rather than buy magazines, so I have adapted the target audience so my magazine attracts to the broadest audience possible.

The primary audience for my Billboard is similar to that of the magazine and website. The age range is 16 – 30 due to the content of the Billboard being what I expect to interest this age range the most and with the Billboard being seen more by people of an older age who drive. The demographics for the secondary audience is the same as my magazine and website.

Language

The language for my magazine will be informative, and slightly informal. The language of my magazine will be used to inform the readers. The informal language used is aimed to keep the magazine professional as well as making sure the readers understand what has been written, and so they feel comfortable reading the magazine. I have chosen this because I think my magazine would not fit a formal language, as it is designed to make the readers feel at home, and to connect with the magazine. I feel readers can not do this is they are trying to understand everything that has been written with a formal language.

The language for my website home page will be the same as the language used for my magazine for the same reasons, to connect with my target audience. I will use informal and informative language for the home page of my magazine.

For my billboard I will use informative language as I am trying to advertise my magazine. I will use a more formal language for my Billboard as I will not include lots of writing on my Billboard, so the readers will not have to try hard to understand the billboard.

Layout

The layout for my regional magazine is geometric. I am using squares and triangles to create the layout of my magazine on each page. Each page has a different geometric layout to keep the magazine theme the same but to keep it interesting for the readers. I am using the shapes to show the colour scheme in block colour, as well as using the shapes for images and text boxes. The geometric layout keeps the magazine modern and simple, but different and trendy. The geometric layout makes the magazine easier to read and fits with the genre of my magazine.

For my website I am using a very simple and modern layout, and including some of the geometric layout to create by brand. The simple layout makes it easy for the readers to navigate around the website and find articles.

For my Billboard I am keeping the geometric layout from my magazine. I am using the geometric layout to show the colour scheme, and to make it stand out. I am also using this layout to maximise the number of images I can use for my Billboard. The geometric layout makes it easy to create the right ratio of text to images for my Billboard as well as keeping the theme.

This is an example of what the layout for my products looks like. This is a flat-plan for my Billboard. As you can see, it is built around a geometric layout. My magazine and website has a similar layout to this.

Colour scheme

The colour scheme I will use for my magazine is the colour scheme seen above. I have used these colours in all of my products as if creates the affect I am looking for. The lighter, bright colours fit with the genre of baking, as these types of colours are often used in this genre. The darker colours with the lighter colours work for the genre of home and lifestyle, as a common colour scheme and contrast of colours are used often not only for this genre but for in real life scenarios, such as painting your home. The more neutral colours go well with the other colours keeping the magazine simple, modern, and easy to read. The colours also fit with the target audience.

This is the colour scheme for all of my products. This grey shade is my prominent colour. I will use this as the base colour for all of my products.

Purpose

The main purpose of my magazine is to entertain and interest the readers on the subjects of food, baking, and home and lifestyle. The purpose of my magazine is also to educate the readers on new recipes and food trends, as well as educate on the new trends with home and lifestyle.

The purpose of my website is also to educate and interest the readers in the genres I have chosen, and also again to educate readers on not only the topics included on the website but also the region I have chosen. Another purpose of the home page is to make it easier for people to access the content of the magazine and find it easily online.

The purpose of the Billboard is to advertise my magazine and its brand. It is also to encourage people to read the magazine and to appeal to their interests.

My Unique selling point

The USP for my magazine is that it includes 3 different genres, in a layout that is really easy to read and understand. This is my USP as it is not common for a magazine to have more than one genre. It is also uncommon in magazines that do have more than one genre, for the genres to work well together in a magazine that makes sense and has structure. This is why my USP is also the layout and style of magazine, as it makes the magazine really easy to read despite there being more than one genre.

The USP for my website home page is the layout and colour scheme. My website will have a geometric layout that looks more like a blog than a website, with bright colours. This is my USP as it is uncommon for a website to look like a blog but still look professional and give the same affect as a common website home page, like mine will be.

Again my USP for my Billboard is its geometric, simple layout. Billboards are commonly over the top and cluttered in order to grab the most attention, however my Billboard will have the same affect but will look smarter, and will set the tone for my magazine and brand.

My magazine will be both a magazine to read as a hobby but also as an informative product. It will include recipes and information on the South of England to inform the readers but will also include articles on trends, and topics that suit peoples hobbies within the baking, and lifestyle genre.

My website will suit those who want to read as a hobby as well as those who want to inform themselves on the topics I include. It will do both by making clear the articles on recipes and the area, and the articles on trends.

My Billboard will be informative as it will be used to advertise my magazine and inform those of the genres that will be featured in the different issues of magazine.
